Zero Waste Festival
Under the leadership of Mrs. Emine Erdoğan, Chair of the United Nations Zero Waste High-Level Advisory Board and Honorary President of the Zero Waste Foundation, the Zero Waste approach—which has evolved into a global environmental movement—has gained a new gathering place with the Zero Waste Festival, which began today in Istanbul. Organized in collaboration between the Zero Waste Foundation and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the festival welcomed visitors at Atatürk Airport from June 4 to 7.
Visitors from all over the world who attended the Zero Waste Festival had the opportunity to visit the African Cultural Center booth and get an up-close look at Africa’s vibrant culture, handicrafts, and approach to sustainable production.
The Zero Waste Festival Is Making History as a World First
The festival, which also marks a world first, meets all of its electricity needs through renewable energy sources, making it the world’s first festival certified as using renewable energy.
One of the Most Comprehensive Environmental Organizations
While the festival stands out as one of Turkey’s most comprehensive environmental events contributing to the country’s sustainable development goals, it also highlights that the “zero waste” philosophy is a holistic way of life that goes beyond mere waste management. The efficient use of resources, energy conservation, combating climate change, and promoting responsible consumption habits are among the festival’s core messages.
